Week 10: My Social Media Journey 📱✨
For this week, I wanted to share a little bit about myself and my passion for social media! 📱
I started using Facebook when I was just 8 years old (I know, super young to have my own account 😂), but honestly, it was really helpful. At that time, I used Facebook mainly to communicate with my mom while she was working out of the country. We would message each other, say how much we missed each other, and stay connected. 💬❤️
Right now, I have 2.6k friends on Facebook (and honestly, I don’t even know like 90% of them 😅). What I loved about Facebook was being able to stay connected with my friends from the Philippines. Seeing our photos and videos always made me think of them more. 🇵🇭📸
My perspective on Facebook has definitely changed over time. When I was younger, I thought getting tons of likes on a profile picture meant you were "popular" or "famous" 😎. Now, I kind of just see Facebook as a platform for "older people," selling second-hand stuff, and, honestly, it's feeling a bit outdated compared to newer platforms.
Now, let’s talk about Instagram! 📷✨ Instagram is one of the most entertaining and fastest-growing platforms out there. A lot of people my age (and younger!) are using it to post about their lifestyles, share Reels, and promote their small businesses or personal brands.
My take on Instagram? SCARY, yet EXCITING
Why? Because sometimes you overthink before posting, worried that no one will like, comment, or even interact with it. That’s how I feel every time I post! Not only that, but people can be quick to judge you for the smallest mistake, like posting a reel that gets misunderstood. 😬
Next up: YouTube! 🎥
Currently, I have 113 subscribers. I know it’s not much compared to others, but hey, 100 is better than 0 when you're trying to be a "vlogger" or influencer," right? 💪 Most of what I post is just random, fun stuff with my friends.
What I love about YouTube is how easy it can be to blow up, if you’re consistent. Most of my reels get between 1,000 and 10,000 views, which is wild! However, if you're not consistent, you'll definitely see your views and subs drop (just like Instagram). 😅
One of my goals after graduation is to really focus on consistency and effort to make my social media platforms.
Lastly, let's talk about TikTok; my absolute FAVORITE platform right now! 🎶💃
Why? Well, you already know! One big reason TikTok has my heart is because I joined their affiliate program, meaning I can actually make money when my videos do well. 💸
My highest views so far? 555,700 views with 53,500 likes. My second-highest? 345,500 views with 63,000 likes. 🔥 Where are those videos now? Oh, they’re private... because they’re cringey 😂.
I used to be super addicted to TikTok, posting consistently and loving the attention. But then life got busy, and I stepped back a little. One major thing I learned from TikTok is this: Whatever you do, do it for yourself. 💖
I’m proud of how TikTok has helped me become more comfortable with showing the world who I really am. Plus, thanks to my 9,000 followers, I’ve already gotten some free stuff! 🛍️ I know that if I want to grow even more, I just need to keep posting more, more, and MORE! 🚀
What about you?
👉 What’s your favorite social media platform, and why do you love it so much? 💬✨
Super interesting to hear about your social media journey! For me, FaceBook was actually the latest app that I downloaded (Instagram or Pinterest being the first in middle school), as I only just recently downloaded and made an account on FaceBook when I found out we had to for our MTG 391 class lol. I would say that my favorite apps to use are TikTok, Pinterest, and Instagram!
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely love this post! Your journey is so relatable and inspiring — from using Facebook to stay connected with your mom (🥺❤️) to going viral on TikTok. It's amazing to see how each platform has shaped different parts of your life. Also, the way you keep it real about the pressure of posting and the importance of doing it for you is so refreshing. Keep shining and sharing — you're definitely going places!!
ReplyDeleteNice to hear about your journey on social media! I also ended starting social media more early than I should've hahah. I was around 11-12 when I started using my first few socials which was Instagram and Snapchat. I definitely agree that instagram can be intimidating to post on sometimes! Even a decade later I still find myself hesitant to post on there for my personal projects.
ReplyDeleteIt’s cool to see how each platform has shaped your perspective, especially TikTok those numbers are no joke. I definitely feel the part where you said Instagram is both scary and exciting. Posting creative work can feel like walking a tightrope, especially when you're also trying to run a business and stay visible without overthinking everything.
